The state minimums of liability in Colorado are 25,000/50,000/15,000. This means in the event of an accident your insurance would pay out at most $25,000 in Liability damages (lost wages, medical bills, etc.) per person with a maximum of $50,000 per occurrence. The $15,000 is the amount in property damage the insurer will pay out (vehicles, property, etc.)
The time frame for which a policy is effective
Named: A named perils insurance policy only provides coverage on losses incurred to your property from events or risks named on the plan
Open: refers to property insurance that insures against loss to covered property from all causes except those that are specifically excluded
Subrogation is a way to protect you and your insurance company from paying for incidents/accidents in that you are not at fault.
It basically lets your insurer recoup costs (medical bills, property damage, etc.), including deductibles, from the at-fault driver’s insurance company, if the accident wasn’t your fault. A successful subrogation means a refund for you and your insurer.
If the other insurance company is dragging its feet, you can submit a claim with your insurance company for payout (even though it wasn’t your fault). Your company will pay out, so you do not have to wait, and then get the money back from the other company through subrogation!
The strict definition is compensation to the insured party for damages or losses up to a certain limit for covered perils.
This guarantees that the insurance company returns you financially, and regarding your property to the state you were in before the loss, but not better.
We all know what discounts are, but what companies give the best discounts? That depends on the company, ALWAYS ask what the bundle discount percentages are for your insurance needs.
In addition, ask if they have discounts for:
A score is computed and used to determine rates for insureds. It represents the probability of an individual filing an insurance claim. It is based on credit rating
Crime and claims in your zip code are a huge part of the rate. We have seen policies jump by hundreds of dollars every 6 months based on the insured moving to a new zip code.
Lots of hail claims or fire claims in the zip code? Prepare for insurance rates to jump!
Claims and accidents stay on your record for 5 years. If you have recent claims on your record or accidents your rates will go up! This also goes for these things happening to others in your household or on your policy.
Tickets for any moving violation will stay on your record for 3-5 years and will change rates based on the severity of the ticket. The worse the violation, the higher the jump in rates!
